This interview with Fiend (at the time called
Brother Fiend) was conducted by an MWF newsletter Surfin' For Scoops editor
(also an MWF wrestler) the Big Kahuna following the end of the 1997 MWF PPV
season. Ironically, at the time of this interview, Fiend had been retired
due to a stipulation in a 6-man match at the final card of 1997, MWF
Wrestlemania. In the interview, however, he discusses being a member of the
NWA in a managerial capacity and talent scout for the
group.
TPBKahuna: Hello, Brother Fiend,
and welcome to Surfin' For Scoops.
Bmpfmwf:
Good morning.
TPBKahuna:
The first and most obvious question,
Brother Fiend: Have you QUIT the New World Alliance?!?
Bmpfmwf:
No I have not!! I don't know who's
spreading these rumors.
TPBKahuna:
The rumors have come from a cheap
imitation of this great Newsletter, a place called Real News Wrestling and
the "MWF Insider." So you have never spoken to this "MWF Insider?"
Bmpfmwf:
Not in the past 2 months.
TPBKahuna:
Fascinating, dude. So you remain
today Brother Fiend and a cornerstone of the New World Alliance?
Bmpfmwf:
I am in the N.W.A but not as a wrestler
anymore. I am a scout for new talent.
TPBKahuna:
Of course. How could the Big Kahuna
have forgotten: You were forced to retire after the Wrestlemania Main Event.
What were your feelings after that match? After ending one of the most
illustrious careers in MWF history not with a bang but a whimper?
Bmpfmwf:
I could sit here and cry sour grapes
all day but I won't. I am very proud of everything I've done in my career
and have no regrets.
TPBKahuna:
You were the World Champion for over
5 years, by far the longest title reign in the history of the MWF. How did
you feel after losing that belt in shocking fashion to Mike Speedo early
in 1997?
Bmpfmwf:
I was dissapointed, of course, but
he was the better man that night. He beat me fairly and I respect that.
TPBKahuna:
Shortly after that, you shocked the
wrestling world by turning your allegiance away from the MWF and joining
the NWA. Many considered you the REAL "Franchise" of the MWF: why in God's
name would you turn your back on the MWF and your fans?!?
Bmpfmwf:
I was told by certain unnamed MWF
officials that a title rematch was not in my future so I felt a big change
was necessary to open up some eyes and give me a title match.
TPBKahuna:
But you still have not received that
rematch! Do you regret your decision to join the NWA, especially since it
eventually caused your premature and involuntary retirement?
Bmpfmwf:
As I said before I have no regrets,
period.
TPBKahuna:
You stated before that you are a
talent scout; was it you who "discovered" The Handsome Bastard, who has been
tearing up MWF Arena Shows in Poughkeepsie, Peoria and Chipachit lately?
Bmpfmwf:
Yes, I'm very proud of this discovery;
he reminds me of myself a few years ago. He has alot of potential. He could
be a champion someday.
TPBKahuna:
I don't mean to offend you dude,
but I must ask: are you the Handsome Bastard?
Bmpfmwf:
I am a handsome bastard but
I'm not the Handsome Bastard.
TPBKahuna:
Some will be skeptical of that, Brother
Fiend. They will say that you and your NWA co-horts are trying to circumvent
the rules and regulations of the MWF and you have INDEED returned to the
ring. How can we be sure you are telling the MWF fans the truth?
Bmpfmwf:
I don't believe I've ever lied to
the fans before so they'll have to take my word on it.
TPBKahuna:
We mentioned your loss to Mike Speedo
earlier; what are your feelings on his rather disappointing World Title
Reign?
Bmpfmwf:
He beat me fair and square. Thats
all I have to say about it.
TPBKahuna:
The NWA likes to take credit for
revitalizing the MWF. Do you think this is true?
Bmpfmwf:
If the NWA didn't arrive there probably
wouldn't have been an MWF in '97.
TPBKahuna:
You defeated Doctor Destruction at
Wrestlemania and took for yourself the title of "Hardcore Icon." Doc later
scored the pinfall on you during the six-man main event featuring the Coalition
vs. The NWA, forcing your retirement. How do you feel about the man that
you wrestled against in one of the bloodiest and hardest fought feuds ever
in the MWF?
Bmpfmwf:
I respect him but he never ever beat
me one on one. I don't believe he could be proud of the way he beat me in
the 6 man.
TPBKahuna:
At that same mega-card, Wrestlemania,
the Mountain of Molten Lust shocked the wrestling world in much the same
way you did months earlier; by joining the NWA. Is the Mountain a good edition
to the NWA?
Bmpfmwf:
I think he could be a good edition.
TPBKahuna:
Did the NWA choose to add him at
that time because they were afraid they would lose the main event and one
of their number to retirement?
Bmpfmwf:
I actually wasn't aware that he was
going to join. I have no fear of losing. I dont know about the rest of
them.
TPBKahuna:
But you DID lose, dude! And now you
have been forced into early retirement! Come on...you must be going
crazy not being able to wrestle! What are you going to do with
yourself?
Bmpfmwf:
Who said I'm not wrestling
elsewhere?
TPBKahuna:
If this is true, where are you wrestling?
And is that allowed according to the stipulations of that six-man retirement
match?
Bmpfmwf:
If it's not an MWF event it's none
of their fucking business.
TPBKahuna:
Okay, dude. Sorry I asked!
Before I let you go, I'd just like some quick thoughts on several MWF wrestlers
and topics. First:
Double 7 Chris Simmons.
Bmpfmwf:
Overated
TPBKahuna:
NWA leader Rugged Ralph.
Bmpfmwf:
Who says he's the leader?
TPBKahuna:
It was an assumption on everyone's
part that Rugged Ralph was the leader of the NWA. Is that a false assumption,
Brother Fiend?
Bmpfmwf:
Next question.
TPBKahuna:
Is there friction in the NWA????
Bmpfmwf:
Not that I know of. Have you heard
something?
TPBKahuna:
Only what I am hearing from you!
Are you and Rugged Ralph not getting along?
Bmpfmwf:
First of all, jabrone, I've treated
you with the utmost respect this entire interview and now you're trying to
start shit?
TPBKahuna:
I'm sorry Mr. Fiend. I will move
on.
What are your feelings about "The Franchise" Brett Krueger?
Bmpfmwf:
He needs to get focused on what's
important or he will never hold a singles title.
TPBKahuna:
The Coalition?
Bmpfmwf:
Lucky.
TPBKahuna:
Bonecrusher Bob?
Bmpfmwf:
Who?
TPBKahuna:
Bonecrusher B---oh, never mind.
Jeremy "The Juicer?"
Bmpfmwf:
Bright future.
TPBKahuna:
Who will fill the vacated MWF World
Championship in 1998?
Bmpfmwf:
A champion.
TPBKahuna:
What is the future, in your opinion,
of the NWA?
Bmpfmwf:
Total domination.
TPBKahuna:
Thank you again for your time, Brother
Fiend. Any last words to the fans of the MWF (or the NWA, for that matter)
before I let you go?
Bmpfmwf:
Thanks for the memories.
TPBKahuna:
Thank you again for your time and
congratulations on an incredible
career.
