Ares Interview 7/26/2000

This interview with Ares was conducted by the official MWF newsletter Surfin' For Scoops editor (also an MWF wrestler) The Dude.

This interview is with an exciting youngster known only as Ares. In his short stint in the MWF, he has already put World Champion Mountain of Love out of commission and defeated his partner Joe Black for the MWF U.S. Championship. What follows is an interesting interview with an articulate young man. A young man seemingly without fear or trepidation about his meteoric rise in the MWF, or how that rise might threaten others in the MWF.

Surfin 4 Scoops: At this time I would like to introduce Ares to the Surfin' For Scoops fans out there. Good afternoon, Ares.

Ares: Good Afternoon...

Surfin 4 Scoops: How did you come to be involved with the MWF?

Ares: Well, I discovered the MWF was in my area, and I decided that it was about time to show everyone just what Ares was all about.

Surfin 4 Scoops:You've had, what, 4 MWF matches so far, and already you have won the MWF's second most coveted championship, the U.S. title. Did you expect such quick success?

Ares: Yes, I've had 4 matches now, and honestly I did not expect the quick success. I knew I had the ability, but I did not expect the opportunity to win the U.S. Title to present itself so quickly. But when the opportunity became available, I capitalized on it.

Surfin 4 Scoops: That opportunity came in the form of Sergeant Joe Black, a man you've been running with for a few weeks now. Will that relationship survive your victory over him at Summer Showdown on July 22?

Ares: Well, that all depends on the attitude of Joe Black. You see, everyone here needs to understand my state of mind....I am here in the MWF to wrestle, and to win. If I make friends, they come second. I will wrestle anyone, and I will beat everyone.

Surfin 4 Scoops: So if Joe Black is willing to accept that he is the "number 2 guy" in your relationship, then that relationship will be fine. Am I correct in understanding that?

Ares: Yes, that is true. I am not the "number 2 guy" to anyone, so in this alliance, it has to be him. So whether he decides to remain my ally is his choice. If he decides to betray me, however, it could be a fatal mistake as far as his future in the MWF.

Surfin 4 Scoops: You speak of fatal mistakes. You recently put the MWF World Champion Mountain of Love out of commission for several months, causing him to forfeit that Championship. Since you are a Johnny-Come-Lately here in the MWF, and the Mountain of Love is one of the most established superstars in the MWF, do you think your actions may come back to haunt you in the not so distant future?

Ares: I believe my actions were a good move for myself. The Mountain of Love is an established star here, and when everyone saw me take him out, it brought my name into the spotlight. If I could take out the World Champion like that, what is going to stop me from beating anyone else? I'm sure the Mountain will try to retaliate against me when he comes back from his injury, but hey, I'm not named after the God of War for nothing.

Surfin 4 Scoops:  So you don't fear the Mountain?

Ares: I don't fear the Mountain. I don't fear anyone here, there is no reason to from my point of view. I'm Ares, and I'm unstoppable.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Let's switch gears for a moment. With your meteoric rise, you're threatening many established superstars, and their "position" in the MWF. Are you afraid of ruffling some feathers with your success?

Ares: My success is just that...MINE. I haven't specifically targeted anyone here besides the Mountain of Love. If anyone besides him feels threatened by me, it is their own problem. They can take the problem up with me, and I'd be glad to prove that my "meteoric" rise wasn't just some fluke. I am here to stay, ruffled feathers or not.

Surfin 4 Scoops: How did you come by the name "Ares?" Is it your real name?

Ares: Well, first off, no it is not my real name. I decided on the name Ares because of my great appreciation for Greek mythology. Also, the obvious reason that I chose the name Ares over all the other gods and titans, is because of who Ares was...the God of War.

Surfin 4 Scoops: So you are declaring War on, who... the Mountain? Joe Black? The MWF? I'm not sure I understand the significance of the "God of War" thing.

Ares: I'm not directly declaring war on anyone. The war is when I step into the ring against any other wrestler. The significance of "God of War" is that, when it comes to warfare, or fighting, I am supreme. I have rounded off my style of wrestling to suit any opponent I could ever face.

Surfin 4 Scoops: So let's run through some of those opponents at this time. Several weeks ago you suffered a clear cut defeat to Carnage, a man who went on to win the MWF World Title at Summer Showdown. Ironically enough, it was YOUR attack on the Mountain of Love that gave Carnage that opportunity, after the Mountain forfeited the title. What is your opinion of Carnage? Do you think Joseph T. Joseph will even grant you a World Title shot against him?

Ares: I don't know if that old nursing home, colostomy bag freak would ever grant me a title shot, but I do know it would be a worthy one. Carnage only got a clear cut victory out of luck. Sure, he beat me...but he couldn't do it again. That day I was all suited up to fight the Mountain, not Carnage.

Surfin 4 Scoops: So you say Carnage was lucky to defeat you? I find that hard to believe, Ares.

Ares: Why is it hard to believe? Are you still one of those who doubt my ability? I am the U.S. Champion after only my fourth match, I don't quite see what more I'd have to do to prove my worth here. Put me in the ring with him again, and I would finish off Carnage 9 times out of 10

Surfin 4 Scoops: So what are you future plans in the MWF?

Ares: For now I believe that I will just defend my U.S. Title to all comers, so I can settle the doubts of all the skeptics such as yourself. Besides that, I'm not sure, I live by the moment, so what I do next depends on how I feel at the time.

Surfin 4 Scoops: It is time for the Dude's favorite part of the interview. I'll give you a name or topic. You say whatever is on your mind. Ready, dude?

Ares: Ready

Surfin 4 Scoops: The Mountain of Love.

Ares: A FORMER World Champion, courtesy of Ares.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Joe Black.

Ares: Ally, FORMER US Champion....again courtesy of Ares.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Joseph T. Joseph.

Ares: A man who belongs in the nursing home. If he doesn't mind his own business, I'll put him there personally.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Trinity (I believe that is her name).

Ares: I don't know, I don't speak to her, she's Joe Black's business....she doesn't interfere in matches or anything...so why is she out there?

Surfin 4 Scoops: "Double 7" Chris Simmons.

Ares: I don't know much about Double 7, but from what I can tell he is a decent wrestler.

Surfin 4 Scoops: The retirement of Brett Krueger.

Ares: Well, of anyone in the MWF, I have respect for Krueger, he stuck around for 13 years, and he excelled at what he did. That is just what I plan on doing.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Rugged Ralph.

Ares: Well, people seemed angry with him for retiring Krueger...but that match was Krueger's idea. Besides that, I like Rugged's attitude.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Bobo Bravado.

Ares: Big guy...but he just came back...he didn't deserve that title shot

Surfin 4 Scoops: Fiend.

Ares: Fiend is a powerful presence in the MWF. I haven't seen much of him though because he was hurt the same day as the Mountain

Surfin 4 Scoops: And finally... The Dude.

Ares: The Dude...a great journalist.

Surfin 4 Scoops: YEAH, BABY! ARES RULES!!! ahem... Any final words for fans of the MWF? Or perhaps for some MWF superstars?

Ares: To the fans of the MWF....just watch me in the ring, you won't have any more doubts about me soon. And to the MWF's biggest fan...Owen, I got your custom 'Ares' T-shirt done.

Surfin 4 Scoops: Good luck in the future, Ares, and the Dude hopes to get a chance to talk with you again soon.

Ares: Thanks.
